Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- use service design terminology, methods and processes in design work
- function as a member of a multidisciplinary team in a goal-oriented way
- apply design thinking to assignments and problem solving
- recognize the importance of foresight in service design
- produce visual presentations of services.

Implementation and methods of teaching

Seven lecturers (includes presentations).

After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- apply the design process in service development
- knows different data collection and analysis methods
- ideate and design the service in a user-oriented way
- utilize the methods of participatory joint planning
- visualize the service process

Contents:
Service design in various operating environments and development tasks
Principles of user-centered design in service development
Service design process, steps, methods and tools
Utilization of forecasting methods in service planning.

Timing and attendance

Implementation of the course (preliminary schedule) 6.3.-17.4.
Encounters (in Zoom).
In the lecture, we get to know the themes, materials and tasks of the course together.

The Zoom link is sent to students who have been accepted for the course using Moodle's guest function.

Mainly the implementation is online.
The course involves participation in the discussion area.
The course has one applied assignment, reading material, book discussion and online discussions.

Working life co-operation is carried out in the course.

Learning environment

During the study period, we meet on campus, online and work in the field.

Student time use and work load

5 credits is a workload of about 135 hours for a student.
The student does independent work: familiarizes himself with the materials offered in Moodle.
The student participates in discussions on Moodle and in lectures.
The student reads the literature of the field and participates in the book discussion.
The student works as a team on one larger development task.
The student plans and participates in facilitating the workshop.

Theme: Design thinking from the perspective of service design
Student
- can use individual service design terms and tell what service design is
- can apply user-oriented design methods and justify in which situations they should be used
- Can use the typical service design process model double diamond
- Understand the principles of joint planning
- knows how to create visual presentations of the service package.

Theme: Teams, team learning, team skills
The student can
- can work in a team in a goal-oriented manner
- knows how to plan and take responsibility for the development of his own service design skills after describing his starting points

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

Theme: Design thinking from the perspective of service design
- The student knows how to apply the service design process
- Can plan joint planning
- knows how to use key service design terms and to consistently explain what service design is
- knows how to apply user-oriented design methods, work in a group in a goal-oriented manner and justify in which situations which method should be used
- knows how to create versatile visual presentations of the service package.

- knows how to work in a multidisciplinary team in a goal-oriented way, promoting the team's goal
- knows how to plan and take responsibility for the development of his own service design skills after clarifying his needs.

Theme: Design thinking from the perspective of service design
The student can
- knows how to use the terms of service design expertly and to tell expertly what service design is
- knows how to choose the one suitable for the situation from user-oriented design methods, apply it, involve users and justify the choice of method
- knows how to choose a visualization method suitable for the activity, justify his choice and create versatile visual representations of the service package.
- Can use the service design process smoothly and utilize the phasing of the process.

- knows how to organize the activities of a multidisciplinary team, promoting the team's goal
- knows how to compare different solution options and take responsibility for the development of one's own service design skills after clarifying one's needs.
