Course consists of many individual assignments and some group assignments. Many software development tools are also being introduced during this course, which means that some individual guidance might be required.

Previous experiences with NodeJS runtime and/or some Linux shell like BASH can help with the studies. Also knowning some basics of web-development can benefit, but none of the previously mentioned are requirements for the participation on the course.

Student must have previous experiences with programming on the basics level.

Course grading will be mostly based on the assessed partial assignments. All of the partial assignments will contribute to the course grade with specified weights or points. The proposed grade will be rounded with traditional rounding rules to match 0-5 grading scale.

Laite toteuttaa sille asetetut vaatimukset, ja vaatimukset ja laitteiston tai ohjelmiston arkkitehtuuri on dokumentoitu. Ohjelmiston ja laitteiston suunnittelussa on huomioitu modulaarisuus. Opiskelija osaa esitellä työnsä muille ja vastata kysymyksiin.

Opiskelija osaa suunnitella ja toteuttaa osuuden sulautetun laitteen ohjelmistosta tai laitteistosta. Laite toteuttaa sille asetetut vaatimukset. Laitteiston tai ohjelmiston arkkitehtuuri on dokumentoitu, ja arkkitehtuurisuunnittelussa tehdyt valinnat on perusteltu ja johdettu vaatimuksista soveltuvin osin. Ohjelmiston ja laitteiston suunnittelussa on huomioitu modulaarisuus ja testattavuus, ja vaatimuksenmukaisuus on osoitettu testein. Opiskelija osaa esitellä työnsä muille ja vastata kysymyksiin. Opiskelija suorittaa harjoitustyön annetun aikataulun puitteissa.

Toteutustapa ja opetusmenetelmät

Meetings on Lahti campus and on Zoom (to be discussed with students at the beginning of the course), and self-studies on Moodle. Lectures and teacher-directed activities, exercises and assignments, group work and individual studies, and feedback from peers and the teacher. Where relevant and possible, integration with another course implementation (e.g., a report writing assignment).

The course is scheduled for October 2024 to February 2025. The course consists of two parts: the basics of professional communication (2 ECTS) and academic communication (3 ECTS). Attendance is required.

Oppimisympäristö

Blended learning: A major part of the studies will take place online (Moodle, Zoom, and other digital platforms as needed). Studies will comprise also live classes on Lahti campus.

About 3 ECTS is focused on academic practices, especially academic writing, and about 2 ECTS is focused on other professional communication practices and skills, both written and spoken.
- general principles of academic writing, including style, text structure, and referencing mechanics
- generic and context-specific guidelines for academic and professional writing
- various written and oral communication situations in professional studies and the working life
- key terminology and concepts in the students' field of study.

Strong English skills recommended. The course is taught at skills level CEFR B2.

Arviointimenetelmät

Continuous evaluation: regular attendance and active participation in lectures and learning sessions. Successful completion of written and spoken assignments and tests by the given deadlines. Students' assignments are assessed individually on a scale of 5-0 or Pass/Fail. The final course grade is determined based on the overall quality of the student's coursework, on a scale of 5-0.
