Implementation and methods of teaching
The course provides students with a broad introduction to different publications and publishing platforms. They will learn to identify the main differences between publications and to design appropriate visual communication solutions. The course is structured around four themes: teaching packaging design modelling software (ArtiosCAD) during the intensive week, sustainable packaging, printed publications and digital publications. Each theme includes supporting exercises to be carried out both in groups and individually.
This course should be taken as a whole.
The course is part of the second year advanced professional studies in Visual Communication Design.
Timing and attendance
During the course, students will be divided into two groups: group 1 and group 2. Groups follow their own schedules.
The course starts right at the beginning of the academic year with a one-week intensive course on packaging design software. The attendance rate for the intensive week is 100%. The intensive week will include exercises which the student will continue independently after the intensive week.

In the course, the student learns to design a complete visual identity for a company or community. The student studies the design and role of commercial imagery (incl. photography), typography, colors and graphic elements. Student gets to know various graphic guidelines and design systems and learns to use them in their work. Student learns how a commercial image can be built in different ways using, for example, photography, video or artificial intelligence.

The illustration part of the course focuses on the analysis of illustration styles and their importance as part of building visual identity. It also explores how to convey content, examining, among other things, the different levels at which presentation styles can contribute to guiding the interpretation of illustration and the comprehensibility of content.

This course is part of the basic studies of visual communication design in the 2nd year. Students must have completed the previous basic studies in accordance with the curriculum in order to participate in this course. Special arrangements can be considered on a case-by-case basis, please discuss with your tutor teacher.
The course must be taken as a whole (15 credits).

The brand studio operates as a design agency. The students will design real client cases. They will lead the design process and are involved in project management.
Students will work in small teams leading their own project, but sharing knowledge to other teams along the way.

Contents
In the Brand Studio, the student learns in depth branding design, visual identity design and the main principles of brand management. Students practice their skills through practical design tasks and the theoretical lectures that support them. The studio includes cooperation with companies and organizations through assignments and visits.
Students understand the importance of building a brand and what their role as a designer is in it. They learn to manage the design process and cooperate with the client and their design team.

Students must have completed at minimum 2 years of graphic design / visual communication design studies.
Possibility to participate from other majors at the LAB Institute of Design and Fine Arts, provided that you have at least a the marketing communication and branding course completed and a foundation (2 years) in your own design field. Please note that preference in student selection is given to students from the major and exchange students from the major.
