Learning outcomes
The studentknows how to usetherapy skills and how toinstruct the client in orderto supportthem in their self-care and ability to function. The student is able to utilize the existingknowledge when planning and implementing the content of the therapy.The student deepens their knowledge in therapy skills.
Implementation and methods of teaching
The student applies therapy skills and teaching and counselling in supporting client's functional capacity and self-managed rehabilitation. The student uses research and evidence based methods in planning and implementing physiotherapy. The student deepens his/her competences in therapy skills.
Reflective diary. Cases. Contact learning separately on both campuses.
Timing and attendance
Active participation in the coaching sessions in class and on-line. Active participation in team work with other students. The content is clarified in the beginning of the course.

Suitable scientific material and articles about physiotherapy. Material in Moodle platform.
Alternative completion methods
The course can be replaced by a course that deepens or expands the skills of a physiotherapist with a course completed at another university or by studying according to a plan made with an individual tutor.

Implementation and methods of teaching
In the study course, you study independently and under the guidance of a teacher in online workshops (Zoom), home campuses and in real working life situations.
Independent study includes preliminary tasks and learning tasks.

Weeks 36-50.
Internships in working life environment, seminar and training on campuses are mandatory. It is not possible to participate in the training classes on campus via Zoom.
The learning events are displayed on the Moodle platform of the course.

Working life cooperation
The course includes two different learning assignments related to working life:
1. The course includes 24 hours of work experience.
2. The course includes familiarization with physiotherapy job tasks and work environments, as well as an interview.

The student is able to
• Describe the main dysfunctions of the respiratory and circulatory system, musculoskeletal system, central and peripheral nervous system, and mental health in different age groups
• Identify groups of medication and their effects on key diseases from the perspective of physiotherapy
• Describe the effects of illnesses and their pharmacotherapy on functional capacity
• Recognise the importance of multidisciplinary cooperation in the implementation of safe and appropriate pharmacotherapy and medical treatment for clients

This is an entirely online, self-paced course. The learning environment is Moodle. You can register for this event until the end of October.
Timing and attendance
The course can be completed in Moodle at a time of your choosing between August 18th and December 31 2025. Registration must be completed by the end of October at the latest. Registrations are accepted once a week, as are course completions, starting in September.
Assessments for the end of December will not be entered into the study register until January. In this case, assessments are dated according to the implementation date, which is the day on which the last course completion was made.

The student is able to
- describe the field of occupational health care and the labor legislation regulating it
- analyze the working environment, its workload factors and an employee's workload, as well as produce a workplace survey report with improvement suggestions
- recognize and prevent the risk factors of occupational diseases and the employees' rehabilitation needs, and carry out activity that promotes and maintains working capacity
- work according to the good physiotherapy practices in multi-professional teams and in cooperation with the employee and the workplace
Implementation and methods of teaching
The course is implemented jointly by Lahti and Lappeenranta. In addition, the course is partly organized multi-professionally with health nursing students, so that starting from the basic studies, the multi-professional way of working in occupational health care becomes familiar. The study includes independent and small group work online, group work on campus and in working life cooperation, and joint Zoom meetings.
Timing and attendance
The study period is scheduled for weeks 33-50/2025.
Acceptance of the course requires active participation in the implementation.

It will be announced on the Moodle pages of the course. No required literature to be acquired.
Working life cooperation
During the study period, we work together a lot, e.g. tasks are done in small groups, different work environments are analyzed - a job survey is made. Information provision, guidance and counseling (TANO activity), health check-up plan, assessment of work ability and health plan are applied to these.
Exam retakes
Failed proficiency tests of the study course can be repeated twice. A person who does not participate in team tasks will have to make up for his absence.

The student is able to
- identify the risk factors and treatment of the most common cardiovascular and respiratory diseases among the adult population as well as explain their impact on the client's physical ability
- describe the cumulative effect that different lifestyle and chronic diseases have on the physical ability and take into account its meaning for the client's physiotherapy
- apply typical physiotherapeutic research methods used in cardiovascular diseases and reliably analyze the measurement results in implementing safe physiotherapy
- plan individual and safe exercises and exercise guidance for the client basing on evidence-based data while taking into account the underlying diseases
Implementation and methods of teaching
The course is implemented as a collaboration between Lahti and Lappeenranta. The studies include independent learning as well as collaborative learning in online and campus environments.
Timing and attendance
The course begins with independent study for the preliminary medical examination. The lecturer provides instructions before the exam.
The course will take place during the autumn semester of 2025 (weeks 40-51).
Students are responsible for independently studying the content of their missed sessions. Students demonstrate their competence through competency test and exams.

The course is implemented together with the Lahti and Lappeenranta campuses. Practice hours are campus-specific. On both campuses, part of the course can be implemented in working life cooperation.

The course requires attendance. Contact teaching is scheduled in the timetable. Other independently completed content and assignments must be completed within the schedules defined at the beginning of the course. Active participation in contact teaching and adherence to the course schedule will also be evaluated. 100% attendance in campus teaching.
Absences (due to illness) must be reported to the teacher responsible for the practice session. Make-up assignments for absences will be given at the end of the course.

Contents
- Basics of functional capacity assessment, key measurements and test batteries, planning and implementation of safe and reliable testing events, and basics of documenting functional capacity information.
- Health promotion: familiarization with physical activity recommendations, nutrition recommendations, and sleep themes, reflecting on one's own daily life against these recommendations. Physical activity and nutrition recommendations as well as sleep as tools for health promotion and support of functional capacity.
- Basics of guidance and guidance methods, goal setting (SMART), movement quality, feedback and motivation, skill teaching and motor learning, health effects of music, relaxation and recovery, case work at the gym, and health effects of nature.
After completing the course, the student can
- select methods for assessing functional capacity in a client-centered way
- measure client's functional capacity reliably
- define client-centered goals that support functional capacity and participation
- identify and use guidance and counseling methods that promote client's functional capacity and participation
- document the basics of client's functional capacity information.
The course supports the development of the student's examination and assessment competence, therapy competence, and guidance and counseling competence.
