Objective
This studio course includes the following parts and their respective learning goals:
Illustrated Storytelling (5 ECTS)
The student is able to
- design illustrations for childrens literature, fiction and other publications that utilize storytelling as well as instruction manuals and school books
- create an illustration concept and illustrations for a story-based publication.
Journalistic Illustration (5 ECTS)
The student is able to
- produce illustration images based on the assignment
- produce illustration and infographics that support written communication
- collect visual information and use visual commentary to support different text genres
- use storytelling methods within single-image illustrations.
Animated Illustration (5 ECTS)
The student is able to
- produce digital illustrations with elements of motion graphics
- produce animated infographics, marketing and ad material and other business communication
- use methods of storytelling based on animated illustration.
Basics of Comics (5 ECTS)
The student is able to
- use the methods and tools of story-based visual storytelling
- create a graphic concept and illustrations for a storyline.

Implementation and methods of teaching
The course is realized as face-to-face teaching, consisting of theoretical lectures, presentations, exercises and discussions. In addition, students will work independently, both individually and in groups.
Timing and attendance
The studio is scheduled throughout the spring semester. Meetings will take place approximately twice a week, with students working independently on exercises. Unless otherwise agreed, 60% attendance is required for successful completion.

Student time use and work load
The 540 working hours of the 20-credit studio are divided as follows: face-to-face teaching about 200-220 hours, independent and group work 320-340 hours (about 10 weeks!).
Contents
In the illustration studio, students reflect on their own visual thinking, explore their own expression and develop their personal style of presentation through experimentation. The student gets to know the different areas and uses of illustration and learns skills that are useful in illustration work.

Basic knowledge of software used in visual field is desirable.
Assessment criteria
Assessment based on coursework, learning diary, presentations and general activity and attendance, as well as self- and peer-assessment.

Students will receive a failing grade if they do not meet the attendance requirement, have not completed all course assignments within the prescribed time or have not met the learning objectives of the course.
Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)
Students will be able to describe and compare different illustration situations and styles, produce illustrations that support the content of the message and produce purposeful and varied illustrations for different contexts. Students will be able to evaluate their own style of expression. Students will be able to design and produce illustrations in collaboration with the client. The student will be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)
Students can describe and compare different illustration situations and styles, produce illustrations that support the content of the message, and fluently produce purposeful and versatile illustrations for different contexts. Students can analytically evaluate and develop their own style of expression. The student is able to design and produce professional illustrations in collaboration with the client. The student will be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)
Students can describe and compare different illustration situations and styles, produce illustrations that support the content of the message, and fluently produce purposeful and versatile illustrations for different contexts. They can analyse and evaluate their own style of expression and develop it in a determined way. The student can convincingly design and produce professional illustrations in collaboration with the client. The student will be able to work fluently both independently and as part of a team. The student will have a minimum attendance rate of 70%.
