Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- describe the principles of goal-oriented individual and group guidance work
- plan, implement, assess and document goal-oriented individual and group guidance
- use dialogue, activating and sensitive interaction in individual and group guidance
- recognise the digital operating environments of guidance
- analyse their vocational guidance activities

Implementation and methods of teaching

The course is part of the Social Pedagogical Guidance Competence module. The course consists of the following components:

a) On-campus contact teaching sessions and preparation for them (1.5 ECTS)
b) Practical individual guidance/counceling and group aciticity assignments (total of 1.5 ECTS). Individual guidance/counceling: 0.5 ECTS. Group activity leading exercise (planning, implementation, reflection): 1 ECTS.
c) Reading assignment (1 ECTS)
d) Group exam and preparation for it (1 ECTS)

Timing and attendance

The course takes place during weeks 44–50.

A passing grade requires:

- Active participation and completion of exercises and assignments related to the teaching

-Participation in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of practical guidance assignments

- Participation in reading activities and the seminar

-A passing performance in the group exam

Learning material and recommended literature

Optional literature on individual and group guidance/counceling in social services work.

Working life cooperation

Planning, implementation, and evaluation of functional group activity.

Learning environment

Contact teaching at the Lappeenranta campus. Online teaching sessions and an exam via the Zoom platform.
Online learning environment: Moodle.

5 ECTS credit course corresponds to 135 hours of student work

-Principles and practices of social pedagogical competence in guidance/counceling

Assessment criteria

A passing grade requires participation in contact teaching as well as successful completion of the assignments and the exam.
