Implementation and methods of teaching

After completing the course, the student will:
- can communicate orally in basic health care situations and routine procedures
- can give information, request, direct and explain their actions in basic health care situations
- can politely express the lack of understanding, i.e. ask for repetition or clarification
- can communicate in basic health care situations with patients, relatives, professionals and the work community
- has some understanding of spoken language
- understands the main points of healthcare documents such as medical records and treatment instructions in simplified language
- can record some patient information and treatment events
- is encouraged to communicate in Finnish in routine nursing situations and to convey information about them both orally and in writing

Timing and attendance

Teaching methods
- Contact teaching / online teaching (1-2 times a week from September to December)
- Independent study on the e-learning platform (weekly assignments)
- Tests on the e-learning platform
- Final exam

Learning material and recommended literature

- Teacher-delivered material on the Moodle learning platform
- Material distributed in contact meetings

Student time use and work load

- Online classes are held 1 - 2 times a week
- Campus days are held once a month at a time announced in advance

Assessment criteria

- Active participation in lessons, completing and returning assignments on time and taking part in the final assessment of the course are important.
- In a face-to-face course, continuous assessment is used, which means that students' participation and activity are central. In learning situations, learners are assessed on their oral and written assignments.
- At the end of the course there is a course examination.
