Students are able to
- read, write and understand Cyrillics
- read and write short phrases in Russian
- introduce themselves and their family orally and in writing
- use simple expressions in everyday communication
Implementation and methods of teaching
Language of instructions: English. Blended learning: participating in lectures, online assignments and homework, accepted obligatory tasks.
Timing and attendance
The lessons are taught twice a week for two hours at once.
70% active participation.

Materials provided by the lecturer on Moodle.
Exam retakes
Examination resit is possible via EXAM-service.

Student time use and work load
28h lessons, about 52h of independent work (including written and oral homework assignments).
Contents
Russian letters and pronunciation.
Situations: presentation, profession, ordering food in a cafe, greetings and farewells, orientation in the city, the days of the week, time of the day.
Grammar: affirmative, negative and question phrases in present; nouns gender; possessive pronouns; present tenses of verbs; grammar cases (nominative and prepositional); numerals.
Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.
No previous studies are necessary. Starting level 0, target level A1.1.
Students speaking Russian as the mother tongue are not accepted to the course.

Assessment criteria
The course can be completed in two ways:
1) continuous evaluation (70% active participation in class and accepted obligatory tasks);
2) exam in the electronic exam hall only and accepted obligatory tasks.

The student has reached the learning outcomes of the course at a minimum acceptable level. The student can interact satisfactorily both orally and in writing in communicative situations studied during the course. The student can limitedly use the achieved knowledge in new situations.
Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)
The student has reached the learning outcomes of the course at a good level. The student can interact quiet fluently both orally and in writing in communicative situations studied during the course. The student can use the achieved knowledge in new situations with some limitations.
Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)
The student has reached the learning outcomes of the course at an excellent level. The student can fluently interact both orally and in writing in various communicative situations. The student can confidently use the achieved knowledge in new situations.
