Implementation and methods of teaching

The course is to deepen the student's knowledge of printmaking. The studies will complement the basic course taken in the first year and will provide practice in new printmaking techniques. The aim of the exercises is for the student to understand the difference between a series of prints and a unique print.

The goal of the course is for the student to learn the basics of colour printing with multiple plates and to understand the possibilities of monotype technique in fine art printmaking. Learning will take place through guided exercises, lectures and group discussions.

Timing and attendance

The participant must be familiar with the subjects studied in the basic course in printmaking.

The course is 5 credits. 1 credit means 27 hours of work.The workshop is run for about 8 hours a day, from Tuesday to Friday for 4 weeks.

Alternative completion methods

The course cannot be taken remotely.

Exam retakes

If a student does not achieve a pass in a course, he or she must take it again the following year.

Contents

The course includes practice in colour printing with several plates and an introduction to monotype as a new technique. By using different printing methods and printing on several plates, you will explore the possibilities of serial and unique art graphics. In addition, the course includes exercises in using the different possibilities of printing inks, layering an image with different colours and aligning printing plates.

Seriality: colour intaglio printmaking with at least two plates and a press run. The plates will be printed in a series and serial versions of the plates will also be experimented with.

Unique print: practice monotype in oil-soluble colours using a variety of image-making techniques and media. Experimenting with different plate materials and printing papers.

The course will also include image lectures and a final discussion of joint works.

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

The basic studies in printmaking (KKU1106-3001) must be completed. This course is designed to supplement the knowledge of the methods acquired in the first year and to continue practising other techniques of printmaking.

Assessment criteria

Completion of the course requires attendance (80%), participation in class, participation in the final discussion, successful completion of assignments and active participation in discussion.

Failure to complete:
- repeated absences from lessons and teaching situations
- significant failure to meet the learning objectives
- incomplete completion of assignments
- poor knowledge of the methods to be practised and the materials involved
- disregard for workshop instructions and safety at work
- non-attendance at final discussions and lectures
