Timing and attendance

Opetus etenee aikataulutetusti lukujärjestyksen mukaisesti elo-joulukuun aikana.

Implementation and methods of teaching

The study course is integrated with the other study courses of the 3rd semester.
Independent learning takes place using reverse learning methods in the form of online learning tasks and team meetings.
In online workshops, you study in real time and under the guidance of a teacher, together or in small groups.
On campus days, we study at the Lahti and Lappeenranta campuses using phenomenon-based learning methods.

Timing and attendance

Teaching proceeds according to the timetable during August-December.

Compensation for absences is agreed upon with the teacher in charge of the practice class in advance, if possible, so that the student presents to the teacher his plan for compensating for the absence and the teacher approves it.

Learning material and recommended literature

The learning material is presented on the Moodle pages of the course.

Alternative completion methods

No optional execution methods.

Working life cooperation

The course does not include co-operation with the working life.

Learning environment

Lappeenranta campus:
exercise classes, gym, exercise physiology and biomechanics laboratories.
Sports field
Free choice (customer-oriented) environment.

Lahti Campus:
Exercise classes, gym, group exercise facilities, other suitable environment.

Online environment: LAB's Moodle platform.

Student time use and work load

Contact education 29 h
Online teaching 9 h
Independent work 97 h

TOTAL: 135 h

A more detailed lesson plan is distributed at the beginning of the study period.

Contents

Functional capacity, ICF
TOIMIA database
Functional ability tests, gait analysis, neurodynamics as a concept, testing of sensation, reflexes and sign muscles,
Written records in physiotherapy

Client cases as pair work or in small groups.

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

The basics of biomechanics, exercise physiology, promotion of movement and guidance skills in physiotherapy, and anatomy and physiology of organ systems are recommended as previous studies.

Assessment criteria

Participation in practice classes accepted-failed.
Completion of learning assignments passed-failed.
After deadline returned learning assignments will affect evaluation, if not agreed otherwise.
The course is evaluated numerically on a scale of 0 to 5 (physiotherapy case).

Assessment scale

1-5

Failed (0)

The student does not meet the level 1 assessment criteria.

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student is able to explain the importance of the respiratory and circulatory systems, the musculoskeletal system and nervous regulation in human functioning and functional capacity, but connecting the changes that occur in them to practical work is still uncertain. The selection and utilization of measures and test sets in physiotherapy research is partly unclear. The student justifies and generalizes his observations unclearly and does not use them logically when making a decision. The student identifies and names different ways to measure and evaluate mobility and functional ability, there is ambiguity in drawing conclusions based on observations. The formation of a comprehensive view and drawing conclusions using the knowledge base of the course is still uncertain. The student gives feedback on the measurement results at a general level and the exercise program and is not in line with the goals. The student has difficulty documenting according to the physiotherapy process. The student participates in teaching and group activities and is limited in his ability to evaluate his activities within the course.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student is able to explain the importance of both respiratory and circulatory systems as well as the musculoskeletal system and nervous regulation in human functioning and functional capacity. For him, it is partly still a challenge to choose and utilize the most reliable and appropriate measures and methods for evaluating each different operating system from the most commonly used measures and methods in physiotherapeutic research. The student can justify and generalize his observations and use them in making a decision, but the operation is still partly uncertain. He has a holistic view of how to measure and evaluate movement and activity skills, making independent conclusions using the knowledge base of the course is still a challenge. The student can also give feedback on the measurement results and implement the control situation of the exercise program and document it according to the physiotherapy process. The student actively participates in teaching and group activities and is able to evaluate his own activities within the course.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student can explain in detail the importance of the respiratory and circulatory systems as well as the musculoskeletal system and nervous regulation in human functioning and functional capacity. He knows how to appropriately select and utilize the most reliable and appropriate measures and methods for the assessment of each different operating system from the most commonly used measures and methods in physiotherapeutic research. The student can critically and comprehensively justify and generalize his observations and use them logically in making a decision. He has a comprehensive view of how to measure and evaluate mobility and activity skills and he draws conclusions independently using the knowledge base of the study course in a structured manner in relation to different subject areas. The student also knows how to give individual feedback on the measurement results and implement the control situation of an interactive exercise program and document it according to the physiotherapy process. The student actively participates in teaching and group activities and is able to evaluate and detail his own activities within the course.
