Contents

After passing this course the student is able to:
• assist in childbirth outside the maternity hospital
• identify the child's age-related stages of development including puberty
• use children and adolescent nursing methods and procedures in accordance with the specific needs of the family
• carry out children and adolescent pharmaco- and fluid therapy safely and apply pain treatment methods effectively
• prepare children and their family for the most common treatments and examinations
• assess child’s condition, report the findings and carry out evidence-based nursing in collaboration with the family and other professionals
• recognize the need for child protection t.eg in cases of child abuse
• promote sexual health individually, including contraception
• carry out nursing in basic health care services including promotion and treatment of public diseases and long-term diseases
• assess the need for treatment of clients
• motivate clients in promoting health and preventing infectious diseases
• carry out national vaccination program and traveller’s health counseling
