First day and lecture at the campus and following online in Zoom.

Timing and attendance

Participation to lectures 75% (4/6) and participation to exercises 100%. In case of problems in participation one needs to discuss supplementary exercises with lecturer.

5cr=27hrs student work, 5cr=135hrs, which is different than contact hours.

What is design and how does it affect the development of everyday life, society and operations
What is design thinking and what are the most important processes and methods for design is using in problem solving.
As a 2nd year addition a brief overview of user-oriented and sustainable design

Design exercise with feedback discussion, grade 0-5
Peer and self evalution

• Is able to use some basic professional terminology and concepts
• Is able to use learned design methods and processes in teams' concept work

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

• Is able to use professional terminology and concepts in consistent manner
• Is able to implement techniques/working methods or models and processes in teams' concept work
• Can work goal-oriented way in a group work

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

• Is able to use professional terminology and concepts in expert manner
• Is able to choose techniques/working methods or models and processes and justify his/her selections in teams' concept work
• Can work goal-orientated and bring ones skills for group to utilize

Student time use and work load

5 ECTS equals app. 135 h of student work. Contains both contact lessons and independent work as well as final presentation.

Contents

The course is divided in four parts
- orientation to design field and design process
- short history of wearable design
- textile materials and structures; knits and the most used fibres in jersey
- experimentation; design, pattern cutting and sewing of a jersey product

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

Basic course. No prior know-how required.

Assessment criteria

Presence, activity and task hand-in according to the schedule.
The quality of the task according to a separate criteria (to be seen at the first day).

Quality of the content not high enough according to the criteria.

- recongnize only single textile materials
- execute a basic presentation with guidance

- recognize the proceeding of design process well
- recognize multiple textile materials
- valiantly try-out several textile materials
- execute an interesting and informative presentation

- recognize multiple textile materials and structures
- valiantly try-out several textile materials and techniques
- execute an interesting, informative and distinctive presentation
