Implementation and methods of teaching
Implementation on the Lappeenranta campus from Monday to Friday, September 1 to October 17, 2025. The studio includes project-based and thematic artistic work as well as work-related analysis, writing, information gathering, and related tasks. The studio will design, test, and present a theme-based artistic entity.
The work and the planned presentation of the art will be reflected in relation to the current debate in contemporary art and the student's own artistic choices.
The studio also includes an introduction to artistic research and sustainability thinking in the creative field. Various visits, exercises, and excursions are also possible.
Timing and attendance
Implementation on the Lappeenranta campus from Monday to Friday between September 1 and October 17, 2025. Requires a minimum of 80% attendance on teaching days and completion of all learning tasks. The attendance requirement also applies to studio start days and participation in the final critique.

Learning materials will be announced in Moodle during the course.

No optional study methods.
Working life cooperation
The studio may contain content and lectures related to LAB's RDI work in visual arts.
Exam retakes
The course must be completed by October 17, 2025. In order to complete the course, students must attend the first few days of the studio, during which the course content and completion method will be reviewed. Participation in the final critique is also part of the course requirements and cannot be replaced by a separate assignment.
Learning environment
Campus and possibly other learning environments. Moodle as the online platform, with some lectures possibly online.

Student workload 15 credits (405 hours). Held at the Lappeenranta campus from Monday to Friday, September 1 to October 17, 2025. Includes guided work, independent exercises, and lectures.
Contents
The artist's thematic and project-based work, analysis and information retrieval skills. Research and documentation of work. Positioning of artistic perspectives and themes in contemporary art.

Has not participated in studio launch and critique days and excursions. Has not returned all course assignments. Has been absent for more than the permitted number of days.

- explain how your own artistic perspective relates to contemporary art
- seek and apply knowledge in their own artistic work
- identify the thematic perspective of the professional artist's work
- read theoretical texts, write about their art and outline the starting points for artistic research
- articulate some aspects of ecology and sustainability in art making.
To have participated in studio initiation and critique days and returned all assignments. Have attended at least 80% of the teaching hours of the course.

Has participated in studio opening and critique days, excursions and attended other important teaching days. Has returned all assignments. Attended at least 80% of the class time in the course. Can articulate what they have learned.

- reflect on their perspective on contemporary art and identify the positioning of their art in contemporary art
- seek and apply knowledge in their own artistic work and be able to relate their work to wider cultural contexts of meaning and articulate them
- understand the exploratory and thematic perspective of the professional artist's work
- can read theoretical texts and write about their art, and apply the principles of artistic research to their own work
- is familiar with aspects of ecology and sustainability in art and can reflect on them in relation to his/her own artistic work.
Have attended studio opening and critique days, excursions and returned all assignments on time.Have been present throughout the course. Can articulate what they have learned.
