Objective

The student will be able to
- expand their knowledge of contemporary painting
- evaluate their own expression in relation to the tradition of painting and current phenomena
- deepen their knowledge of painting materials and techniques and their means of expression
- reflect on their choice of materials and their expression from an ethical and aesthetic point of view
- follow phenomena in national and international painting
- acquire knowledge of artists and painting phenomena that support their own expression
- theoretical, methodological and professional practices in the field
- describe and analyze artistic work and production
- identify, evaluate and develop their own skills in relation to the art world
- contextualize their own and others' artistic work within the framework of the visual arts

Implementation and methods of teaching

Teaching takes place at the Skinnarila campus in the fine arts facilities.

Timing and attendance

The course cannot be carried out remotely.
Attendance 80%.

Learning environment

Teaching takes place face-to-face at the Skinnarila campus in the visual arts facilities. The teaching includes exercises, lectures and feedback discussions.

Moodle is used for information during the course.

Contents

This course will deepen the perspectives and possibilities opened up by the basic course on Painting - the fundamentals of painting.

The initial focus is on material experiments and techniques, followed by their application to artistic work.

The course includes experiments with different materials, a broader knowledge of different methods, and an outline of the relationship between one's own work and the context of painting and contemporary art.

- Can apply a wide range of options to their artistic work process
- Can create artworks based on their ideas in a guided and independent way and develop their work based on feedback
- Can independently identify and compare the methods of artistic creation used
- Can evaluate and justify their skills and set artistic, content-related and technical development objectives
- Carry out all assigned tasks and attend lectures.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

- Can apply and develop a variety of options for their artistic work process
- Can use what they have learned in a planned and creative way in their work and apply the feedback they receive
- Can apply the methods they use and analyse works
- Able to assess, develop and extend artistic, content and technical competence
