Implementation and methods of teaching
The course is divided into two parts:
Part 1_Live model drawing (two weeks)
The course will introduce the students to drawing a living model and practise drawing human proportions, varying the pace, style and medium of drawing. In long duration exercises, you will practice measuring a model and using different tools that helps you to understand proportions.The fast-paced exercises include drawing in a hurry and a model in motion.In addition to this, the course also includes exercises in capturing form using a variety of shading techniques and methods.
It is advisable to bring as many different types of pencils as possible. The quality of the pencils does not have to be good or of "artist quality". The course takes place in the classrooms of the school.
Part 2_Perception and expression (two weeks):
This course will explore a variety of drawing methods, techniques and materials. The aim of the course is to broaden the student's understanding of drawing and its expressive possibilities. Exercises will focus on perceptual work, but will also approach drawing from a purely expressive point of view. The emphasis is on contemporary art without forgetting the history of art. The course will introduce students to artists who use drawing in their art.The teaching will consist of a variety of exercises and free-form critical discussions designed to practice discussion and analysis of one's own and others' art.
It is advisable to bring as many different types of pencils as possible. The quality of the pencils does not have to be good or of 'artist quality'. Everyone should also have a sketchbook of about A4 size at the start of the course. Work will take place in classrooms and on the campus.
Timing and attendance
The course requires attendance at the Lappeenranta campus and cannot be taken remotely. Participation in course supervision and joint final evaluations is also part of the course.
Alternative completion methods
The course cannot be completed other than by attending classes at the Lappeenranta campus.
Exam retakes
If a student does not obtain a pass in a course, he or she must repeat the course the following year or complete the missing parts.
Student time use and work load
The course cannot be taken remotely. Attendance 80%.One credit is equivalent to 27 hours of work for a student. A total of five credits is about 135 hours of study.
