This studio course includes the following parts and their respective learning goals:
Visual Identity Design (10 ECTS)
The students are able to
- produce graphic symbols in accordance with brand goals and requirements
- explain the importance of the visual identity as a part of marketing communications
- create a visual identity concept in accordance with brand goals
- design appropriate and carefully crafted typography
- lead a process of redesigning a visual identity
- apply the design management approach in their work.
Branded Publications (5 ECTS)
The student is able to
- assess the link between the content, the focus group and the graphic design
- explain the difference between commercial and journalistic publications
- combine the brand image and brand goals in publications
- design a commercial brochure or product catalogue for different publishing environments
- schedule the working process.
Brand Management (5 ECTS)
The student is able to
- understands the significance of brand management in visual communication
- write a brand strategy, compose a brand manual and use them to create visual material
- develop existing brands
- compose and administer brand material libraries and knows how to use them
- understand and make use of the mechanisms of influencing.
Implementation and methods of teaching
The brand studio operates as a design agency. The students will design real client cases. They will lead and manage the design process and create a project timeline with the client.
Students will work in small teams leading their own project, but sharing knowledge to other teams along the way.
Studio will also provide theory and practical tools and small exercises to aid the students forward.
The teachers will mentor the process throughout.

The studio runs for the whole semester.
Part of the scheduled course dates are for independent work in small teams. The students manage their own design process and will be actively involved in managing their clients. They will agree production stages together with the client and deadline dates may therefore vary between teams.
The schedule and ways of working are flexible.
Teachers are present once a week at minimum.

Contents
In the Brand Studio, the student learns in depth the visual identity design and the main principles of brand management. Students practice their skills through practical design tasks and the theoretical lectures that support them. The studio includes cooperation with companies and organizations through assignments and visits.
Students understand the importance of building a brand and what their role as a designer is in it. They learn to manage the design process and cooperate with the client and their design team.

Students must have completed at minimum 2 years of graphic design studies.
Option to participate if the student has at least Markeing communication and branding studies completed and relevant 2 years experience for their respective degree.

GRAPHIC DESIGN: Graphic Design Degree Project Studio sessions prepare students to advance their own thesis in a goal-oriented way. The sessions are timed to support the thesis process. The thesis design component is 5 credits, equivalent to approximately 135 hours of student work (one credit 27 hours).
Contents
The planning of the thesis starts already in the spring of the third year with an information session (in zoomis).
In graphic design studies, a separate course on Research and Development (5 credits) guides students through the thesis planning phase. The material for this course is on Moodle and is self-paced, but with assignments 1 and 2 completed and presented at the topic seminar. These are the work plan and the disposition.
The 1 credit course on writing a thesis report is a course offered by LAB to all students and must be enrolled in Moodle on their course platform. This is included in the planning phase of the thesis.

The student is able to:
- present the results or output of their thesis
- report on their thesis in writing in accordance with the thesis guidelines of LAB University of Applied Sciences
- write a maturity test.
Implementation and methods of teaching
Finishing the job. Summary and evaluation seminars. Participation in an exhibition.

In exceptional cases, this will be agreed with the supervising teachers.

• Individual theses may be carried out in cooperation with working life partners. The construction of an exhibition may also involve cooperation with the working world.

• The thesis design component is 5 credits, equivalent to approximately 135 hours of student work (one credit 27 hours).
Contents
• At this stage of the course, the thesis has progressed to the finalisation and publication stage.
In the synthesis seminar, permission will be given to participate in the public evaluation.
The written part will be finalised, used in Turnitin and submitted to the assessors. The artwork will be finalised for the exhibition and, in the case of a dummy for a photo book, for example, will be submitted to the evaluators. The judges will have access to the exhibition work in advance in the form of a pdf of the photo booklet that will be sent to them.
Each student will be involved in the construction of the exhibition, its publicity, etc.
One or more external assessors will be invited to the assessment session. The teachers who supervised the work in the seminars will also take part in the evaluation. The communication teachers will give a written opinion on the written part of the work.'
The student uploads the completed, assessed and approved work to Theseus.
Students will take the maturity test as informed by the supervising teacher.

Timing and attendance
The thesis course is spread over two semesters: the end of the autumn semester and the beginning of the spring semester. The credits are awarded in the spring semester.
The seminars are compulsory.

Contents
The thesis course consists of an artistic production and a report, their supervision and exchange seminars. The supervision sessions will monitor the progress of the thesis and reflect on its direction between the supervising teachers and the students working on the thesis.
The artistic production and the writing of the report run in parallel in the work process.
Assessment criteria
Accepted performance requires active participation in the seminar, tutoring and guidance.
Competency-based assessment:
The student is able to carry out the thesis based on an approved thesis plan.
At this stage, the mid-term evaluation of the thesis will take place orally in seminars.
