Timing and attendance

Attendance is required to complete the course. Exemption from the camera technology section is possible by special agreement, provided that previous knowledge is sufficient.

Learning material and recommended literature

Any learning materials will be distributed during the course.

Student time use and work load

The total number of hours used for the course (teaching + assignments outside the teaching days) is determined by the number of credits awarded for the course.

Contents

The session will explore how photographs have been used in different contexts, how they relate to other media elements, and what messages they convey. It also introduces camera technology and provides exercises to understand the impact of camera technology on visual expression.

Assessment criteria

Evaluation of tasks, self-assessment, active participation. If the course includes an exam, it will be announced at the beginning of the course. Successful completion of the course is conditional on successful completion of the assignments and any examination given during the course. Attendance and timely completion of the assignments may raise or lower the grade for the course by up to one point.

Successful completion of the course requires attendance in class, successful completion of the assignments given during the course and a possible exam.

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

Master the basics of camera technology and understand its impact on visual expression. Understand the means of photography as a medium of communication and evaluate their relationship with other media elements. Participates in discussions and completes the assignments given in the course.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

Has a good command of the basics of camera technology, understands the impact of technology on image expression and is able to apply it in shooting exercises during the course. Understands and is able to articulate the means of photography as a medium of communication and to evaluate the relationship between photography and other media elements. Can discuss photographs and their meanings. Actively participates in discussions and completes the assignments given during the period.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

Has an excellent command of the basics of camera technology, understands the impact of technology on image expression and is able to apply it in shooting exercises during the course. Understands and is able to articulate the means of photography as a medium of communication and to evaluate the relationship between photography and other media elements, highlighting interesting perspectives. Can discuss photographs and their meanings and bring out new perspectives. Actively participates in discussions and completes the assignments given during the period.
