Implementation and methods of teaching

The course takes place mainly online on Zoom/Teams and partly in class on campus. Self-study and pair and group work; discussions, meeting practice sessions, and presentations. Active attendance is required.

Implementation and methods of teaching

Blended learning: teacher-led activities on campus and, when applicable, online (Teams or Zoom); self-study online. Individual and group work. Theory and practice. Post-performance reflective discussions, peer feedback.

• Conducting, chairing, and interacting in meetings, and writing meeting documentation.
• Learning meeting phraseology.
• Applying negotiation strategies and techniques (e.g., BATNA).
• Learning presentation techniques and presenting confidently considering the audience.
• Knowing the basic techniques for interacting in different types of meetings.

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of English for Work or equivalent. The course is taught at a B2 level according to the Common European Framework (CEFR).

Assessment criteria

Continuous evaluation: active participation in exercises, successful completion of written and spoken assignments.
Students' skills are evaluated in 1-2 meetings arranged in small groups and one online presentation.

The student has acquired good spoken, written and nonverbal communication skills in business meetings and negotiations. The student is able to give professional and coherent presentations in English. The student is able to apply the acquired skills in varied business settings in English.

The student has acquired excellent spoken, written and nonverbal communication skills in business meetings and negotiations. The student is able to give professional, coherent, and fluent presentations in English. The student has found their own personal style to interact in meetings and give presentations. A reflective meeting with the teacher on campus towards the end of the course.

Implementation and methods of teaching

Blended learning, in class on campus and online via Teams or Zoom. Theory and practice. Self-study, pair and group work. Reading materials, exercises and written assignments on Moodle; presentations and negotiation case exercises in class and online. Post-performance reflective discussions, peer feedback.

Students are expected to attend 75% of the scheduled on-campus and online classes and actively participate in the learning activities. The compulsory assignments, both written and spoken (e.g. videos), are to be completed by the given deadlines.
