THE CURRICULUM - A tool for students and teachers
The curriculum describes the competence development process towards expertise in the degree programme in question. It visualises the learning process and serves as a study planning guide. The degree programme's structure, intended progress and learning outcomes are described in the curriculum. Course contents, assessment criteria and methods, and methods of delivery are described in the course syllabus.
The curricula of LAB University of Applied Sciences are based on competences and aligned with the European and National Qualification Frameworks. Each degree comprises core competences and complementary (subject-specific) competences. The core competence described in the curriculum equips students with the knowledge and skills base and expertise required for the degree. Complementary competence refers to in-depth or broad-based competencies which students can focus on in order to personalise their degrees.
Bachelor's Degree Programmes, full-time studies
Full-time students are expected to attend contact teaching and guidance sessions on weekdays during the day. In addition to contact sessions, studies can include online learning, individual and group assignments, workplace projects and other projects, independent study, etc.
The total credit load of Bachelor's degree programmes is 210 or 240 ECTS credits depending on the programme. The programme duration is usually 3.5 - 4 years based on 60 ECTS credits per year.

Bachelor's Degree Programmes, part-time studies
Part-time students can study flexibly alongside work. Part-time study can include contact sessions and distance learning, independent learning and work placement periods. Compared to full-time students, part-time students have fewer contact sessions, and teaching is organised according to the programme's needs.
The total credit load of Bachelor's degree programmes is 210 or 240 ECTS credits depending on the programme. The part-time programme can be completed in 2.5 - 4 years depending on the programme and time commitment.

Master's Degree Programmes
At LAB University of Applied Sciences, students can complete a Master's degree flexibly with access to an extensive course offering. The continuous evolution of working life creates a need for a new kind of development professional.
The Master's degree is intended for individuals who have a minimum of three years' work experience and a Bachelor's degree or another suitable higher education degree. The scope of the programme is 60 - 90 ECTS credits, and it takes 1 - 2,5 years to complete.

Open Studies
Open Studies at LAB University of Applied Sciences are available to all. There are no restrictions regarding age or prior education.
Open Studies are aimed at everyone who wish to update their professional knowledge and skills, explore a new field of study or apply for a Degree Programme in the future

Exchange Students
LAB University of Applied Sciences offers studies for incoming exchange students in all faculties. Courses in this study guide are listed under the following categories:
- Studies for all exchange students

- Faculty of Health Care and Social Services
- Faculty of Technology
Exchange students are expected to complete 30 ECTS during the semester.
The majority of the courses are limited for the incoming exchange students of the specific faculty but there are some courses which are open also for the other exchange students. Studies for all incoming exchange students are language and culture courses as well as interdisciplinary courses. All courses for incoming exchange students are taught in English.

Summer studies
Summer courses are organised between May and August. The summer courses offered by Lahti UAS are enrolled via Peppi, peppi.lab.fi. Students can contact their tutor to discuss their choices and suitable courses.
Complementary competence Bachelors and Masters
Complementary competences deepen or broaden the student's knowledge and allow the student to build an individual qualification.
