Learning outcomes

The students can communicate understandably in English in different kinds of written and spoken language situations of the chosen field. The students improve their English skills and know how to use English language materials relevant for higher education studies.

Implementation and methods of teaching

Online Zoom meetings, homework, exercises and other assignments in Moodle, and independent study. Note! Only students of the KLTIVALM25SV group are accepted.

No renewal. Course assignments must be returned in due time during the course with a pass.

Online classes via Zoom or Teams. Tasks and study material in Moodle.

Online meetings - 30 hours, hometasks - 30 hours, exercises and self-stydy - 70 hours.

Contents

The course is aimed at students in a preparatory course for higher education for immigrants (30 credits). The course provides a review of the basic structures of English and practice in oral and written communication situations. The course teaches to speak clearly and understandably and to write clearly worded texts. The course increases students' confidence in using English and develops foreign language learning techniques including reading professional texts and vocabulary. The course gives students with an immigrant background an idea of what it is like to study English in higher education.

Basic English language skills (around A2 level)
The course covers language structures but does not start from the basics of English.

Assessment criteria

The course is assessed pass/fail. The course is considered successfully completed when the student has successfully completed all the given assignments.
