Learning outcomes

The student:
- Recognizes acute complications caused by diabetes, can respond to them, and solve care challenges for diabetic patients within their organization.
- Identifies dangerous and health-threatening acute and chronic complications, can treat manageable complications with nursing methods in a multidisciplinary manner, and, if necessary, refer the diabetic patient for further care.
- Can screen for and consider diabetes-related comorbidities in long-term follow-up and identify contributing risk factors.
- Can consider the effects of acute illness or procedures on diabetes management and monitoring, and respond appropriately to the situation.
- Understands the special support needs of patients with complicated diabetes and can provide individualized support and guidance, as well as refer them to rehabilitation and specialist services.
