Learning outcomes
The student is able to:
- Describe the special features of the placement in question and understand different client care paths through the health care system
- Use nursing assessment and to choose needed nursing interventions by looking at the client's situation from holistic perspective
- Work as a part of multi-professional care team, including also family members
- Show professional level of professional growth as Registered Nurse in ethical and clinical issues and worklife skills
Implementation and methods of teaching
Advanced Clinical Training (15 ects) is done in the final semester in different nursing departments. The student can choose the placement by him/herself by booking the placement from Jobiili or from the unit. It is mandatory to discuss the placement booking with the clinical placement coordinator as the placement needs coordinator's approval. The length of the practice period is 15 ects (1 ects = 27 hours of work).

Alternative completion methods
The student has the option to studificate the advanced practice as part of their studies. Instructions for studification can be found in Moodle under Clinical Training in Nursing Education -Lappeenranta Campus.
Exam retakes
A failed clinical practice must be completed. During the assessment, it will be determined how many weeks the student has completed before the interruption and how many additional weeks are required to achieve a passing grade.

A student must complete all other curriculum-based internships before starting the advanced internship. The advanced internship is to be completed last.
Prerequisites:
- Clinical training in basics of nursing, Clinical training self-care supporting nursing, Clinical training in Medical-surgical nursing 1-2, Clinical training in Mental health and substance abuse nursing, Clinical training in Child, Adolescent and Family Nursing, Clinical training in Gerontological Nursing, Optional Clinical Training
- Passing medical calculations (1-3)
- Theory studies of nursing completed
Assessment criteria
The assessment and assignment are documented in Workseed
Assessment is based on the curriculum learning objectives.
The evaluation is carried out in a discussion with the student, the supervisor, and the lecturer (objective mid-term evaluation and/or final evaluation)

A clinical placement is approved if the student:
Presents their personal learning objectives for the clinical practice period to both the guiding teacher and clinical supervisor by the second week of placement.
Adheres to general workplace rules, including maintaining punctuality, following working hours, notifying about absences in a timely manner, and demonstrating appropriate workplace behavior.
Actively engages in learning and shows interest in the unit.
Follows their supervisor’s shifts, ensuring proper assessment opportunities.
Demonstrates progress in learning and works towards achieving the set objectives during the placement.
Provides safe patient care in accordance with their skills.
A clinical placement is not approved if the student:
Fails to present their personal learning objectives to both the guiding teacher and clinical supervisor by the second week of placement.
Does not follow general workplace rules, such as maintaining punctuality, adhering to working hours, notifying about absences, or demonstrating appropriate behavior.
Has multiple absences, leading to fragmented practice weeks, which significantly hinders learning and supervision.
Fails to follow their supervisor’s shifts, making assessment impossible.
Shows no signs of learning or progress toward meeting objectives.
Compromises patient safety through their actions.
