Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- identify and use the course vocabulary and phrases for common everyday situations
- tell about oneself and understand basic questions
- read and write simple sentences related to the course topics.

Implementation and methods of teaching

Meetings at Lappeenranta campus and independent studying. Contents of the course are studied mainly with functional exercises.

The course is completed in one period, in September - October 2024. Active participation is required.

Exam retakes

Written exam is at campus or in Exam room, an oral exam in campus if needed. The exam dates and more specific information will be announced at the beginning of the course. Exam retake in Exam Room.

Meetings are at Lappeenranta campus and the course material in Moodle.

Approximately 81 hours (meetings + independent studying).

Contents

The course content will be the following:
- greetings
- introduction and personal details
- questions and answers
- numbers and alphabet
- countries, languages, nationalities
- pronunciation
- verb type 1, present tense
- genitive case.

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

No previous Finnish skills required.

Assessment criteria

A written and oral exams to evaluate, how well the student can
- write in Finnish
- understand Finnish texts
- understand Finnish talk and
- speak in Finnish.

- recognizes and can use some of the phrases studied in the course
- recognizes and uses some numbers in Finnish

- pronounces Finnish quite understandably.
