Learning outcomes

The student is able to:
- gain an understanding of multicultural teams, leadership and communication in multicultural teams.
- further develop one’s understanding/awareness of how culture-related themes affect team dynamics, leadership and influence the overall outcomes of a multicultural team.
- apply alternative solutions in challenging multicultural teamwork/situations.

Implementation and methods of teaching

• online course: lectures, videos, literature, individual and group activities/tasks/assignment(s) in multicultural teams (in/out of course lessons)
• Extensive individual/group work time used outside lessons.


Learning outcomes of the course

The student is able to:
• gain an understanding of multicultural teams, leadership and communication in multicultural teams.
• further develop their understanding/awareness of how culture-related themes affect team dynamics, leadership and influence the overall outcomes of a multicultural team.
• apply alternative solutions in challenging multicultural teamwork/situations.
• demonstrate knowledge of and skill in carrying out a community project as a course project for a specific customer/ segment of Finnish society

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student somewhat understands the theories and practices of multicultural teams/teamworking.
The student recognizes the existence of cultural influences in multicultural teams, leadership and communication in multicultural settings. The students understand community-based projects but needs support to effectively such projects
The student attends the course lessons and completes course assignment(s).

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student has good knowledge of the theories and practices of multicultural teams/teamworking.
The student recognizes and understands how culture influences the dynamics and outcome in multicultural teams/teamworking, leadership and communication in multicultural settings.
The student can apply some solutions to challenging multicultural teamwork situations and organize and run a small community-based project
The student participates in course lessons and completes the course assignment(s).

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student has excellent knowledge of the theories and practices of multicultural teams/teamworking and can utilize them in multicultural teams.
The student recognizes and understands how culture influences the dynamics and outcome in multicultural teams/teamworking, leadership and communication in multicultural settings.
The student can apply a variety of solutions to challenging multicultural teamwork situations and effectively organize and run a small community-based project
The student actively participates in course lessons and completes the course assignment(s).
