Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- explain the term design and describe how design affects the development of everyday life, society and businesses
- make use of design thinking and some of the typical design process and methods for solving problems.

Timing and attendance

Building competence requires active presence throughout the course - attendance rate 80%. Attendance is compulsory at the start and end of the course. The daily programme of the course is announced at the start of the course.

Learning material and recommended literature

Study materials and literature will be announced during the course.

Alternative completion methods

AHOT. The student presents previously acquired skills in a demonstration. To be agreed separately with the course teacher.

Face to face teaching, lecture and workshop facilities.

Student time use and work load

On average, 5 x 27h = 135h of work are required to achieve the desired level of competence. The total number of hours is divided between classroom teaching (lectures and individual supervision) and independent or small group work.

Contents

1. To learn about design, its processes and working methods. The lectures will also provide an overview of the designer's job description and design as a profession.
2. the process and working methods learnt will be practised throughout the course in the context of a continuous design assignment.

Assessment criteria

Active participation in contact teaching.
Completion of the exercises and returning them in due time. Late arrival will affect the assessment.
Possible examination.
