Learning outcomes
The student is able to
- identify and use the course vocabulary and phrases for common everyday situations
- tell about oneself and understand basic questions
- read and write simple sentences related to the course topics.

Implementation and methods of teaching
Contact lessons on Lahti campus as well as independent studying.
Timing and attendance
- The course will be organized during one period.
- Active participation is required.
Lecture Attendance Policy:
Requirement: To complete the course successfully, you must attend at least 75 % of the lectures.
Consequence: If you fall below the 75 % attendance requirement, you will be unenrolled from the course.
Punctuality: Arrive on time for lectures. Check TimeEdit for your lecture schedule and follow it. Teacher will do the attendance registration at the beginning of each class. Late entry to the classroom will be treated as equivalent to absence.

Classes approx. 28 hours.
Independent study, including homework and learning assignments, and preparing for exams, approx. 50 hours.
Contents
The course content will be the following:
- greetings
- introduction and personal details
- questions and answers
- numbers and alphabet
- countries, languages, nationalities
- pronunciation
- some food words and words related to family
- to have -structure
- verb type 1, present tense
- genitive case.
Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.
No previous Finnish skills required.
Assessment criteria
Ongoing evaluation and written and oral exam to evaluate, how well the student can
- write in Finnish
- understand Finnish texts
- understand Finnish talk
- speak in Finnish.
