Toteutustapa ja opetusmenetelmät

This course will be taught via weekly classroom lectures. Students will work in teams to create a business plan. Each week new topics will be covered and students will have weekly assignments to update their business plans.

Ajoitus ja läsnäolo

A lot of group work will be carried out in class. Attendance at the first lecture is compulsory. Students must attend 80% of the lectures.

No further reading required, everything will be covered in the lectures.

Arviointimenetelmät

Students will be assessed on the business plans and accompanying pitch videos which they produce. 2/3 of the evaluation will be based upon the business plan and 1/3 upon the pitch video.Students will receive a grade based upon the performance of their group.

Attendance at 80% of the sessions.

Producing a pitch video of poor quality. For example:

- It is much shorter or longer than the seven minutes allowed
- Failure to use the background or animations to provide supporting information, e.g. graphs from the market research
- Failure to cover some of the key elements from the business plan in sufficient detail
- The video is a product or service advert rather than a pitch video for investors
- Failure to in-depth analysis of the financial information

Producing a business plan of poor quality. For example:

- The plan is either vastly over or under the word limit
- The plan lacks analysis or explanations. For example, not analysing the results of the market research, not providing an explanation of the choice of branding etc.
- The plan does not cover all the main topics covered in the classes
- Weekly assignments completed poorly or not submitted on time
- Financial information and predictions not explained in detail
- The plan is not written in complete sentences and proper paragraphs

- It is within one minute of the seven minutes allowed
- Some use of the background or animations to provide supporting information, e.g. graphs from the market research
- Reasonable effort to edit the video and make it feel coherent
- Covering the key elements from the business plan in adequate detail
- The video is a pitch video for investors
- Some analysis of the financial information and justification for predictions

Producing a business plan of good quality. For example:

- The plan is within 300 words of the word limit
- The plan does not just cover all the main topics covered in the classes but adds analysis and explanations
- Weekly assignments completed well and submitted on time
- Financial information and predictions explained in detail
- The plan is written in complete sentences and proper paragraphs and overall is well formatted and complies with the requirements of the NIBS competition

Attendance at 80% of the sessions.

Producing a pitch video of excellent quality. For example:

- It is within 20 seconds of the seven minutes allowed and does not exceed seven minutes
- Frequent use of the background or animations to provide supporting information, e.g. graphs from the market research, branding and logo, financial information etc.
- The video is well edited and feels coherent, e.g. video shot on the same location, students are attired appropriately, appropriate backing music etc.
- Covering the key elements from the business plan in good detail
- The video is a pitch video for investors
- In-depth analysis of the financial information and good justification for predictions

Producing a business plan of excellent quality. For example:

- The plan is between 4,900 and 5,000 words
- The plan does not just cover all the main topics covered in the classes but adds in-depth analysis and explanations, e.g. not just setting out what the market research results were but analysing what useful lessons can be learned
- Weekly assignments completed well and submitted on time
- Financial information and predictions explained in detail and are well justified
- Students demonstrating the ability to apply critical thinking and identify weaknesses in the business plan and devise strategies to combat these weaknesses
- The plan is written in complete sentences and proper paragraphs and overall is well formatted and complies with the requirements of the NIBS competition
