Learning outcomes

After the course, the student
- knows the forms and the use of the subjunctive mood
- can tell about the past events by using both imperfect and preterite tenses
- knows the characteristics about the Spanish-speaking America and the main
differences between the Spanish spoken in Spain and the Spanish spoken in America
- can discuss the topics concerning the society and the work life.

Implementation and methods of teaching

A web course with material and exercises in Moodle.
The course can be done as a Kivanet webcourse.

Timing and attendance

The course starts at the beginning of the Week 11 (10th of March 2024) and it ends at the end of Week 21 (25th of May 2025). There are 2 common virtual meeting in Zoom (or compensatory exercises), as well as versatile oral and written exercises.

Contents

The topics of the course are Latin American society and economics, tourism, environment, sustainable development and the South American Free Trade Association Mercosur.
Grammar structures:
- revision of the past verb tenses
- the past tenses of subjunctive
- the conditional clauses
- the voseo phenomenon (informal personal structure used in Argentine and Uruguay)

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

The good knowledge of the Basics of the Spanish Language (at least the courses Spanish 1,2,3 and Spanish for Work 1 of LAB/LUT courses) or equivalent knowledge.

The Level of the course is the CEFR Level B1.

Assessment criteria

The course is evaluated with grades 0-5 by the basis of the returned exercises and of the Moodle exam at the end of the course.
