The student is able to
- ask about the health and describe their own health.
- describe places, things and people.
- understand and write short messages about everyday life (e.g., invitations, requests, messages of absence).
- understand short messages and advertiments related to celebrations and events.
- tell about matters and events using the most common verbs in the past tense.

Contact lessons on Lahti campus as well as independent studying.

3 credits corresponds to approximately 80 hours of study.
Classes approx. 28 hours.
Independent study, including homework and learning assignments, and preparing for exams approx. 50 hours.

Contents

The course content will be the following:
- health, sickness, body parts and appearance
- events and celebrations related to student life (e.g., birthdays, student events, town festivals)
- short messages about free time, studies, and work (formal and informal)
- must sentence
- verbs can, may and get
- basic information on the plural partitive
- K, P, T -variation
- word types
- basic information on the past tense
- basic information on the object
Objective
The student is able to
- ask about the health and describe their own health.

- understand and write short messages about everyday life (e.g., invitations, requests, messages of absence).
- understand short messages and advertisements related to celebrations and events.
- tell about matters and events using the most common verbs in the past tense.

Ongoing evaluation and written and oral exam to evaluate, how well the student can
- write in Finnish
- understand Finnish texts
- understand Finnish talk
- speak in Finnish.

The student has reached the learning objectives at a satisfactory level.
Student
- recognizes and can use some phrases studied in the course

- can recognize and use few words studied in the course
- can write a short message and a story in Finnish on a given topic
- pronounces Finnish understandably.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student has reached the learning objectives well.
Student
- understands and can use many phrases studied in the course
- tells about someone's appearance and her/his health condition in quite versatile way
- understands and uses the basic vocabulary studied in the course
- can write a message and a story in Finnish with only quite flawless
- pronounces Finnish understandably.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student has reached the learning objectives in an excellent way.
Student
- understands and can use all or almost all phrases studied in the course
- tells about someone's appearance and her/his health condition in versatile way
- understands and uses vocabulary studied in the course quite extensively
- can write a quite long message and story in Finnish mainly flawless
- pronounces Finnish quite well.
