Contents

Lectures:
Energy transfer during exercise, cardiovascular system during exercise, exercise performance and environmental stress, exercise in weight control, overtraining, harms of physical exercise, optimal training during lifespan and measurement of physical performance

Demos:
Respiratory and circulatory system responses to load, UKK 6 min walk test, UKK 2 km walk test, performance tests, balance and coordination tests, indirect and direct VO2max with PP-ERGO, polar resting state test.

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

It is recommended to take the Anatomy and Physiology of Organ Systems course at the same time or before participating in the course.

Assessment criteria

Participation in demos. Examination of lectures and labworks.
Grade of the course consists of exam (0-5).

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

Student can explain the energy transfer during exercise in a general level. Student can explain the essential parts of the physical performance and training methods in a general level. Student can choose some endurance measurement methods and devices for different physiotherapy cases and she/he can argue the choices somehow. Student can perform the most common endurance measurements and she/he can explain the results of the measurements in a general level and apply the results in the planning of the physiotherapy somehow.

The exercises required in the course have been completed with approval.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

Student can explain the energy transfer during exercise comprehensively. Student can explain the essential parts of the physical performance and training methods logically. Student can choose endurance measurement methods and devices for different physiotherapy cases independently and she/he can argue the choices logically. Student can perform the most common endurance measurements independently and she/he can explain the results of the measurements in a general level and she/he can apply some parts of the results in the planning of the physiotherapy.

The exercises required in the course have been completed with approval.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

Student can explain the energy transfer during exercise logically, detailed and comprehensively. Student can explain the physical performance and training methods logically and detailed. Student can choose the most optimal endurance measurement methods and devices for different physiotherapy cases independently and she/he can argue the choices logically. Student can perform the most common endurance measurements independently and she/he can explain the results of the measurements detailed and apply the results in the planning of the physiotherapy logically.

The exercises required in the course have been completed with approval.
