Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- ask about the health and describe their own health.
- describe places, things and people.
- understand and write short messages about everyday life (e.g., invitations, requests, messages of absence).
- understand short messages and advertiments related to celebrations and events.
- tell about matters and events using the most common verbs in the past tense.

Lessons (15 x 2 hours) on campus, assignments in Moodle, independent work (53 hours)
Please note, that the course is primarily not designed for completely independent studying, but the participants are expected to be active in the lessons.

15 lessons (30 hours) and independent work (51 hours)

Contents

- Health, sickness, body parts and appearance

- events and celebrations related to student life (e.g., birthdays, student events, town festivals)

- short messages about free time, studies, and work (formal and informal)

- must sentence

- verbs can, may and get

- basic information on the plural partitive

- KPT variation in verb types 3 and 4

- word types

-basic information on the past tense

-basic information on the object

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

Finnish 3 or equivalent skills

Assessment criteria

The evaluation of student's performance consists of 2-3 parts:

1) Continuous assessment

2) An exam to evaluate, how well the student can
- write in Finnish
- understand Finnish texts
- understand spoken Finnish.

3) In some cases, an oral exam to evaluate the student's ability to speak Finnish. (More information will be available in the course introduction material in Moodle.)

Assessment scale

1-5

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student partly masters the vocabulary and structures related to health, celebrations and spare time.
The student understands some main points from written and spoken texts and is able to react with few words.
The student can produce short written and spoken texts related to the topics of the course, but there are flaws in vocabulary and structures.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student masters the vocabulary and structures related to health, celebrations and spare time well.
The student understands the main points from written and spoken texts and is able to react with short sentences.
The student can produce short written and spoken texts related to the topics of the course, but there are flaws that can cause misunderstandings.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student masters the vocabulary and structures related to health, celebrations and spare time in an excellent way.
The student understands the main points from written and spoken texts and is able to react in their own words.
The student can produce mainly flawless written and spoken texts.
