Learning outcomes

The student is able to

Implementation and methods of teaching

100% online. For LLPRLII23SV online students only.
Course Intro in Zoom.
Self-study on Moodle course platform and online meetings practice sessions according to each team's own schedule.
Teams record a final meeting video and a presentations video.
Exam in Moodle towards the end of the course.

Timing and attendance

Moodle platform available on 10 September 2024. The compulsory assignments, both written and spoken (e.g. videos), are to be completed by the given deadlines

All materials are provided through Moodle by the teacher.

RPL if proven experience in giving presentations and attending meetings in your previous jobs.Apply for RPL early on in eRPL service in Peppi before you sign up for this course.

Student time use and work load

Student workload is equivalent to 4 credits (approximately 110 hours) spread evenly during the course.

Contents

• Conducting, chairing, and interacting in meetings, and writing meeting documentation.
• Learning meeting phraseology.
• Applying negotiation strategies and techniques (e.g., BATNA).
• Learning presentation techniques and presenting confidently considering the audience.
• Knowing the basic techniques for interacting in different types of meetings.

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of English for Work or equivalent. The course is taught at a B2 level according to the Common European Framework (CEFR).

Assessment criteria

Continuous evaluation: active participation in exercises, successful completion of written and spoken assignments.
Students' skills are evaluated in a meeting arranged in small groups and one online presentation as well as in a final exam.

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student has acquired basic spoken, written and nonverbal communication skills in business meetings and negotiations. The student is able to give basic presentations in English. The student has not fully reached the professional standard required to interact in meetings and give presentations.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student has acquired good spoken, written and nonverbal communication skills in business meetings and negotiations. The student is able to give professional and coherent presentations in English. The student is able to apply the acquired skills in varied business settings in English.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student has acquired excellent spoken, written and nonverbal communication skills in business meetings and negotiations. The student is able to give professional, coherent, and fluent presentations in English. The student has found their own personal style to interact in meetings and give presentations. The student is able to apply the acquired skills in an expert manner in varied business settings in English.
