The student can manage in everyday situations in Finnish.
Implementation and methods of teaching
Lessons on Lappeenranta campus and independent studying.
Timing and precence
The course will be completed during two periods in spring 2024, (21.1. - 28.4.2024). Lessons are twice in a week two hours (2 x 2 h), in week 9 no lessons and during the week 17 three lessons. Active participation is required.

Materials given by the teacher. Most of the material is also in Moodle.
Exam retakes
Written and oral exam. The exam dates will be announced at the beginning of the course.

Lessons are on Lappeenranta campus and exercises in Moodle.
Student time use and work load
Approximately 135 hours (lessons + independent studying).
Contents
The course content will be the following:
- home, living and nearby area
- weather, seasons, months
- clothes, colors, shopping
- vehicles, traveling
- t-plural
- to have -stucture
- locative cases (Where? Where from? Where to?)
- k, p, t -gradation in verbs and nouns.
Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.
Finnish culture and language 1 or equivalent skills.
Assessment criteria
A written and oral exams to evaluate, how well the student can
- write in Finnish
- understand Finnish texts
- understand Finnish talk and
- speak in Finnish.

Student
- recognizes and can use some phrases studied in the course
- tells something about their home and the area where they live
- tells something about weather, clothing and traveling
- can recognize and use some words studied in the course
- can write sentences in Finnish on a given topic
- recognizes and can use some of the structures studied in the course
- pronounces Finnish quite understandably.
Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)
Student

- tells many things about their home and the area where they live
- tells many things about weather, clothing and traveling
- understands and uses the basic vocabulary studied in the course
- writes short texts in Finnish on given topics
- understands and uses the structures studied in the course
- pronounces Finnish understandably.

- uses the phrases studied in the course fluently
- tells about their home and the area where they live quite extensively and fluently
- tells about weather, clothing and traveling quite extensively and fluently
- understands and uses vocabulary studied in the course quite extensively
- writes texts in Finnish on given topics with only a few errors
- understands and uses the structures studied in the course with only a few errors
- pronounces Finnish quite well.
