Implementation and methods of teaching

The course topics are introduced and discussed in class on campus. The course is communicative and interactive: Students work in small teams and in pairs throughout the course but also do individual coursework. The course may include a small-scale collaborative learning project with students from another group (e.g., International Business), which will be announced while the course runs.

Timing and attendance

Classes on campus in the autumn semester. See the course schedule in the TimeEdit system: https://cloud.timeedit.net/lut-saimia/web/public/

Learning material and recommended literature

All course materials are available on the course page on the Moodle platform.

Alternative completion methods

Contact the instructor.

A student who meets the course learning objectives at an excellent level and has used English at work and for professional purposes may opt to take an exemption exam. The exam has two parts: a written and an oral part. The student must score 80% or more to pass the written part. After passing the written part, the student may take the oral part by giving a professional presentation in English. There is no material package available for the exemption exam; skills must be demonstrated based on experience.

The exemption exam may be taken once; no retakes. A student who fails the exam is required to take the course later. No exceptions.

A student who wants to opt for the exemption exam must contact the instructor at the start of the semester before the course is scheduled to start.

Learning environment

In class on campus. All course materials and assignment instructions are available on the course page.
