Learning outcomes

The student can
- use the educational institution's photo studio and apply their skills in different environments
- operate in different light conditions and use different lighting devices in their image expression
- to plan the visual concept and its implementation
- explains concepts related to light and lighting.

Learning environment

The course is mainly taught face-to-face at the Lahti campus. Some parts of the course can also be delivered via distance learning. Distance learning will be done via video link, for which the student must have a suitable quiet room. Suitable facilities can be found, for example, on campus.

Contents

The course teaches lighting and working in a photo studio in an educational institution. You will also learn how to use mobile lighting equipment. Through photo assignments and discussions about the images, the use of light and lighting in image expression is taught.

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

Students should be proficient in the use of digital system cameras.

Assessment criteria

The assessment will be based on descriptive tasks and related processes, participation in discussions and an exam, and possibly other tasks. The assessment will focus on the description tasks and related processes.

Approved performance (grades 1-5) requires an approved exam (at least grade 1 if the course includes an exam) and completion of the assignments given during the course in accordance with the instructions given. An acceptable grade also requires participation in class, including discussion sessions related to the filming assignments.

Can use the professional terminology and jargon related to the subject area in a versatile and competent manner. Demonstrates familiarity with the knowledge base of the field and is able to select and justify the techniques, working methods and processes appropriate to the activity and to produce visual material of particular skill and interest in terms of content and visual appeal using the techniques and working methods learnt.
