Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- use the basic terms and concepts of digital tools in discussion
- use the basic functions in typical digital tools of visual design in their field of study
- utilize visual design tools to carry out assignments
- find guides and information about the use of more advanced tools in design software.

Implementation and methods of teaching

The whole course is taught as contact studies - lectures, exercises and examples.

Timing and attendance

The course consists of 10 contact teaching sessions. An attendance rate of 80% is required for successful completion. Attendance at the first meeting of the course is compulsory.

Should be personally negotiated with the teacher.

Exam retakes

It is not possible to retake the course (there is no exam).

Student time use and work load

The 135 working hours of the 5-credit course are divided as follows: contact teaching about 70 hours, independent work about 65 hours (about 2 weeks).

Contents

Basics of Adobe Illustrator and InDesign software, basic concepts of graphic design and typography, basics of vector and pixel graphics, creating a PDF file, printing.

Exercises, learning tasks and attendance.

The student will receive a failing grade if the attendance requirement is not met or if they have not completed all course assignments within the specified time.

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student knows the basic concepts of digital software and the basics of using digital tools in their field. They understand the purpose of different software.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student knows the basic concepts of digital software and the basics of using digital tools in their field, as well as slightly more advanced functions. They understand the intended use of different software.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student has a broader understanding of the concepts of digital software and masters the more advanced functions of digital tools in their field. In addition to the functions learnt in the course, the student is able to complement their software skills independently. The student understands the purpose of different software and is able to choose the most appropriate software for the task.
