Learning outcomes

The student is able to

Implementation and methods of teaching

Delivery method: face-to-face and distance learning, independent work and teamwork. Lectures, presentations, guided and independent learning tasks.

All learning tasks are compulsory.

Timing and attendance

80% attendance penalty.

Building competence requires active presence throughout the course. Attendance is compulsory at the starting day and the last day of the course. Timetable: Found at TimeEdit, the daily programme of the course will be indicated at the beginning of the course.

The course will be taught face-to-face on campus, mainly on Mondays. The teaching day will usually always include a 1.5 hour zoom-connection with the University of São Paulo students.

Learning material and recommended literature

A list of literature related to the course will be provided during the course.

Student time use and work load

On average, 5 x 27h = 135h of work are required to achieve the desired level of competence. The total number of hours is divided between face-to-face teaching, as indicated in the timetable, independent work and teamwork.

Contents

The course provides an introduction to looking into of megatrends and new phenomena of various fields, and to working in an international team to come up with forward-looking concepts for sustainable development.

The course will cover some methods of futures thinking and ideation and teach how to detect change around us.

The essential purpose of the course is to learn to look at the field from outside your own bubble, to get to know and network with students from outside your own culture and to learn more about their culture and ways of working.

Assessment criteria

The grade will be based on attendance, activity during the campus days, the level of completion of the learning tasks.

Persistent participation as an active member of the team as well as the completion of independent tasks on your own initiative within the timetable is a priority. Peer assessment of teamwork by students will also be part of the final grade.

Failed (0)

A fail grade is given when the student has not achieved the learning objectives of the course or has not been able to demonstrate his/her competence. Or the student has not completed the tasks for which he/she is responsible and participated as an active member of the group in the brainstorming and assignments.

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

Student
- Can work according to instructions.
- Can search for professional information related to the course in a guided way.
- Has participated in common teaching situations and group work 80%.
- Has carried out the tasks for which he/she was responsible in a guided way.
- Has not shown activity, initiative or self-direction in carrying out group work.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

Student:
- can apply and develop a variety of options in their working process.
- Can use what they have learned in a planned and creative way.
- has done well in completing the tasks for which he/she was responsible within the time limits.
- Has demonstrated activity, initiative and self-direction as a member of a team.
- can apply the methods used, suggest and brainstorm ways of working and communicate constructively in a team.
- has learnt to understand some characteristics of a different culture.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

Student:
- can apply and develop a variety of options in their working process.
- Can use what he/she has learned in a planned and creative way and apply the feedback he/she receives.
- has done an excellent job of completing the tasks for which he/she was responsible within the time limits.
- has systematically demonstrated exceptional activity, initiative and self-direction as a team member and has offered to help others when needed, where possible.
- is able to apply the methods used, to propose and innovate approaches and ideas and to communicate constructively within the team.
- has learnt to understand some characteristics of different cultures.
