Learning outcomes
Students are able to
- describe the basics of Western visual arts, architecture and other visual culture, from prehistory to modern times
- use the research concepts of art history and visual culture
- view their professional field as part of artistic practice and the visual environment
- use their knowledge of phenomena in art history in their professional development and work.
Implementation and methods of teaching
The course consists of lectures, group and individual tasks. Course materials deal with art and design history and theory.
Main goal of the course is to learn the use of contemporary sources of information: printed and e-materials including professionally valid digital archives and data bases.

The history of art course consists of 13 lectures (4 hours each).

Course materials and tasks will be published in Moodle e-learning environment
Alternative completion methods
Optional study method is to be agreed with teachers.
Exam retakes
There is no test in the course. Evaluation is based on tasks made during the course.
Learning environment
Both printed research material and internet and digital data bases are used as study materials. Teaching is face to face meetings on campus.

History of Art (5 cr) is 135 hours of student work lectures included.
Contents
History of Art offers an overview on the history of art, architecture and design. The time span is from the present to the antiquity, the years from 1918 to 2023 underlined. Focal contents of the course are changes of the art concept, formal and trend convention development and representative elements in visual expression.

Course evaluation is based on the tasks according to the quality of the used study materials. The tasks and the materials are explained in the moodle e-learning environment.
