Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- describe how to search and apply information required to carry out resource efficiency and water management -related projects
- choose the most suitable methods to perform different energy-related assignments
- act as a responsible member of a team, and to present and report on a project according to the University reporting guidelines

Implementation and methods of teaching

There are numerous different project courses in the environmental technology education curricula, for which the teachers do not organise specific course activity. Instead, you can generally complete these courses in one of two different ways:
1) By participating in project/innovation events organised by LAB or by another university/enterprise.
2) By implementing a project for your workplace or otherwise on a particular topic that is of interest to you.

An information session will be held at the beginning of the semester about this project course, and additional meetings will be held for students in Finnish and/or English every two weeks. ZOOM links to events we posted in Moodle and they will also be inserted in your timetables.

Timing and attendance

The course can be completed by the student at a time that best suits their own schedule. An information session is also organised once a semester about the study courses, in addition to which information/questionnaire sessions are held every month in ZOOM.

Project studies can also be performed in the form of various project study units organised by LAB and other higher education institutions (for example Lahti Venture Programme), in which case the scheduling of these study courses is abided by.

Please note also that projects carried out at the workplace can also be credited under project studies.

Learning material and recommended literature

More information about participating in different project courses can be found in Moodle under the general & bilingual pages "Environmental Engineering project courses".

Alternative completion methods

More information about participating in different project courses can be found in Moodle under the general & bilingual pages "Environmental Engineering project courses".

Working life cooperation

Working life cooperation is recommended as a possible project theme.

Exam retakes

The course needs to be completed satisfactorily during the study period.

Student time use and work load

The calculated workload of the course is 135 hours, which consists of the time spent on the project itself, getting to know the subject area, preparing a project plan, reporting and reflecting on the results. A record is expected to be kept of time used for the project in the form of working hour monitoring.

If the student replaces these studies with other one, the guidelines of the project study package offered by the other entity in question need to be followed

Contents

This course belongs to the environmental technology project course category for which the teachers do not organise/offer separate courses. You can take these courses in two different ways: 1) By participating in project/innovation events organised by LAB or by another university/enterprise or 2) By implementing a project for your workplace or otherwise on a particular topic that is of interest to you or your employer.
