Learning outcomes

The student is able to
- explain the term design and describe how design affects the development of everyday life, society and businesses
- make use of design thinking and some of the typical design process and methods for solving problems.

Contact tutoring.
Lectures and practical tasks.

Requires active presense during scheduled days.

Provided at the beginning of the course.

Student time use and work load

5 ECTS equals app. 135 h of student work. Contains both contact lessons and independent work as well as final presentation.

Contents

The course is divided in four parts
- orientation to design field and design process
- short history of wearable design
- textile materials and structures; knits and the most used fibres in jersey
- experimentation; design, pattern cutting and sewing of a jersey product

Basic course. No prior know-how required.

Assessment criteria

Presence, activity and task hand-in according to the schedule.
The quality of the task according to a separate criteria (to be seen at the first day).

Task not handed-in.
Quality of the content not high enough according to the criteria.

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

Student is able to
- schedule one's own work poorly (regular absence or delays, delayed hand-in)
- recognize the proceeding of design process poorly
- recongnize only single textile materials
- execute a basic presentation with guidance

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

Student is able to
- schedule one's own work well
- recognize the proceeding of design process well
- recognize multiple textile materials
- valiantly try-out several textile materials
- execute an interesting and informative presentation

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

Student is able to
- schedule one's own work professionally
- apply different design process models
- recognize multiple textile materials and structures
- valiantly try-out several textile materials and techniques
- execute an interesting, informative and distinctive presentation
