Learning outcomes

- knows the main features of the Finnish working culture
- understands simple texts and instructions related to induction, workplace rules and safety at work
- can describe the working environment
- can communicate in informal situations in the workplace

Implementation and methods of teaching

During the course, the students will learn about their own field in Finnish and about rules in Finnish working life. The students will get acquainted with a workplace and work tasks in their own field.

Timing and attendance

The course will start in the beginning of February. Online meetings via Zoom.

Study material in Moodle. Material created by the students.

The learning assignments are related to working life.

5 credits corresponds to approximately 135 hours of study.
Classes approx. 45 hours.
Independent study, including homework and learning assignments, approx. 90 hours.

Contents

The students will do learning assignments, according to their own choice, on the following topics: 1. Rules in working life, 2. My field and 3. At the workplace. The assignments include written and oral exercises.

When performing the assignments, the students will collect a basic vocabulary related to their own field and working life.

Furthermore, the students will learn to use the following structures: imperative, conditional, partitive case in plural, necessive structures and object.

Prerequisites: Finnish for Work 1 or corresponding skills

Assessment criteria

Evaluation 1 to 5 based on learning assignments.

The student has completed the assignments in a satisfactory way.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)
