Implementation and methods of teaching
The course includes the basics of serigraphy and it will be held in the printmaking studio of LAB's Lappeenranta campus. The course teaches how to set up a screen for printing, how to print, how to clean a screen and how to do the final maintenance. The course includes exercises in printmaking on different materials.
The theoretical part of the course will cover the possibilities of the serigraphy method and introduce international and Finnish printmakers. The material theory concerns the tools used in the techniques, such as screens, papers, colours and other tools.
Occupational safety related to the techniques is linked to the materials used in the course, such as inks, chemicals and safe working practices.
Timing and attendance
The course is recommended to be taken after the basic printmaking studies, for example in the second year of studies.
The course is held in a printmaking workshop in Lappeenranta campus, where the methods are practised under the guidance of a teacher from Tuesday to Friday for four weeks. The course requires the student's presence in the workshop. The course cannot be taken remotely. The course also includes participation in a joint final examination.

Student time use and work load
The course is 5 credits. 1 credit means 27 hours of work.The workshop is run for about 8 hours a day, from Tuesday to Friday for 4 weeks.
Contents
The course provides practice in the basics of serigraphy. Participation in the course does not require previous studies in printmaking techniques, it is a basic course in the method. The course covers the preparation of the screen, the printing process, the cleaning of the screen and the final maintenance of the screen. Printing exercises will be carried out on a variety of materials. Different image making techniques in serigraphy will be tried out and screen exposure will be practised. At the end of the course, students will be able to work independently and safely with the method and will know the equipment to be used and how to maintain it.

Assessment criteria
Completion of the course requires attendance (80%) at both class and feedback discussion, successful completion of assignments and active participation.

Failure to complete:
