The number of hours used for the course is determined by the number of credits indicated for the course.

Contents

The course covers the basics of film photography and darkroom work. During the course, each student will be introduced to both small and medium format film photography, as well as silver gelatine printing.

The course will be organised as a workshop in small groups, and it will also include independent work.

Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.

No previous knowledge required. The camera and darkroom equipment needed will be offered by the school. In some cases, it is possible to use your own equipment in addition to the equipment provided by the school.

Assessment criteria

The assessment will be based on the visual work presented and on the level of participation and attendance. The tasks will be assessed in terms of visual expression, work process and technical execution. Attendance in class will influence the assessment.

-Insufficient accomplishment of assignments
-Poor knowledge of the methods and related materials to be practised

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

Knows the terminology associated with analogue photography and demonstrates a knowledge base in the field. Can apply the techniques, working methods and processes learnt in the execution of photographic tasks.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

Can use key professional terminology related to analogue photography in a consistent manner and demonstrate a good command of the knowledge base in the field. Can apply a wide range of the techniques, working methods and processes taught during the course, and produce interesting photographic work using them.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

Can use the professional terminology of analogue photography in a versatile and competent manner and has a good command of the knowledge base of the field. Can select and justify techniques, working methods and processes appropriate to the activity and produce particularly skilful and interesting photographic work using the techniques and working methods learnt.
