Learning outcomes

The student will be able to
- produce a publication according to a plan
- take into account the costs and financing possibilities of a publication
- produce and select expressive content and use it in a publication
- work in a team project

Timing and attendance

The course requires 80% class attendance and active participation in the production of the publication.

Literature will be announced during the course.

Learning environment

The course is mainly taught face-to-face at the Lahti campus. Some parts of the course can also be delivered via distance learning. Distance learning will be done via video link, for which the student must have a suitable quiet space. Suitable facilities can be found, for example, on campus.

Student time use and work load

In addition to contact teaching, the course includes independent work. The total workload of the student, including contact teaching, is 270 hours.

Contents

During the course, a photography publication will be realised according to the plan. The work will be done in interaction with other group members and collaborators. The management of the different steps involved in the practical realisation, discussions about the photographs, the layout of the publication and other expressive content are the main contents of the course.

Failed (0)

An approved mark for the course (grades 1-5) requires the completion and return of assignments in accordance with the instructions and sufficient attendance and active participation in the work. An approved mark also requires sufficient mastery of the topics studied during the course.

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

Actively participates in the work. Can work in a team and communicate with target groups and partners. Can apply techniques, working methods, methods and processes in their own work in a guided way. Has a command of the professional terminology and jargon associated with the production of photojournalism.

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

Actively participates in the work and is able to develop their work based on feedback. Can work in a team and communicate professionally, taking into account the target groups and partners. Can apply techniques, working methods, models and processes in a guided and independent manner, justifying their choices and using them to produce interesting visual material. Can consistently use professional terminology and jargon related to the production of visual publications.

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

Participates actively and autonomously and is able to develop their work both on their own initiative and on the basis of feedback. Can work in a team and communicate in a competent and professional manner, taking into account target groups and partners. Can independently select and justify appropriate techniques, working methods, models and processes and produce particularly skilful and interesting visual material using the techniques and working methods learnt. Can use the professional terminology and jargon associated with the production of visual publications in a consistent, comprehensive and competent manner.
