Learning outcomes

The student can
- distinguish between different printing methods of textile materials
- recognize the principles of using different printing techniques
- to design a printed pattern for a base material
- to design a printed pattern to be realized with digital printing technology

Implementation and methods of teaching

Lectures and presentations, company visits and excursions and learning assignments

Timing and attendance

Building competence requires active presence throughout the course. Attendance is compulsory at the start and end of the course and during the company visits. The daily programme of the course is announced at the start of the course

Contents

PUMU, wearable design.
The course introduces the different possibilities of patterning textiles, especially by printing techniques, the principles of using different printing techniques, designing print patterns on base materials and the processes of print fabric design. The course includes the design and realisation of a print pattern using digital printing techniques.

Assessment criteria

Active attendance of the course and company visits, and successful completion of the assigned exercises and return of the assignments as scheduled. The weighting of the independent learning assignment is 50% of the final grade.

Assessment scale

1-5

Failed (0)

A fail grade is given when the student has not achieved the learning objectives of the course or has not been able to demonstrate his/her competence. Exercises not returned 1 week after the final presentation, unless otherwise agreed.
Missing independent learning assignment.

Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student is able to
- name printing methods for textile materials
- list the principles, methods and processes of using different printing techniques
- reproduce ideas for the design of printing patterns for base material and for digital printing techniques
- repeat technical skills exercises in the design of printing fabrics
- participate in a guided discussion on their skills

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student is able to
- identify and interpret the printing methods of textile materials
- explain the principles, methods and processes involved in the use of different printing techniques
- generate a wide range of ideas and compare alternatives in the design of printing patterns for base materials
- independently produce print designs using digital printing techniques on the basis of their ideas
- find ideas and use the information for their work on the basis of feedback
- independently carry out technical skills exercises in the design of printed fabrics
- identify and differentiate their skills and identify their choices

Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)

The student is able to
- compare and analyse printing methods for textile materials
- compare and apply knowledge of the principles, methods and processes of different printing techniques
- apply a wide range of ideas, find solutions and develop alternatives in the design of printing patterns for base materials
- plan, creatively select, evaluate and apply a wide range of methods to produce print designs using digital printing techniques
- develop their ideas and implementations on the basis of feedback
- assess and develop their technical skills in the design of printing fabrics
- analyse their artistic, content and technical skills and set development objectives
