Toteutustapa ja opetusmenetelmät

Classroom lectures and group research assignment.

Ajoitus ja läsnäolo

Attendance for the first lecture is compulsory as this is when students will be divided into teams and choose their area of research. After that attendance at the lectures is voluntary but highly recommended. The slides will be available in Moodle but the lectures will not be recorded. Attendance at the two assignments is compulsory.

For the lectures on EU law no further reading is required.

For the research assignment students will need to research and find information about an aspect of international law and will have to find their own reliable sources for this.

Uusintamahdollisuudet

Students who have failed will have an opportunity to do re-take the exam at the end of the semester.

Arviointimenetelmät

Assessment for this course will consist of two parts:

1. Research assignments - students will carry out a research assignment and then produce a 15 minute presentation to the group on their chosen topic.

2. Online exam on the lecture material - students will also have an exam consisting of questions related to the lecture material.

Students will receive a group grade for the research assignment and individual grade for the exam. The research assignment and exam are both worth 50%. Students must pass both the research assignment and exam to pass the course.

Students who participated well and actively in class may also have their grade improved.

Failing the exam and or failing to produce a research assignment demonstrating a basic understanding of their chosen topic.

Arviointikriteerit: taso 1: (arviointiasteikko 1-5)

Online exam - The student is able to identify basic concepts of Finnish and EU law.

Research assignment - Students produce a presentation demonstrating a basic understanding of the chosen topic such as what the law does and where it is in force and what its purpose is etc.

Arviointikriteerit: taso 3 (arviointiasteikko 1-5)

Online exam - The student is able to identify and understand basic concepts of Finnish and EU law.

Research assignment - Students produce a presentation demonstrating a good understanding of the chosen topic and are able to provide more in-depth analysis such as an explanation of how it works in practice with examples as well as an explanation as to why this law is required.

Arviointikriteerit: taso 5 (arviointiasteikko 1-5)

Online exam - The student is able to identify and understand complicated concepts of Finnish and EU law.

Research assignment - Students produce a presentation demonstrating an excellent understanding of the chosen topic and are able to provide in-depth analysis such as an explanation of how it works in practice with examples as well as an explanation as to why this law is required. In addition students are able to critically evaluate the law and provide their own thoughts on how it could be modified or improved.
