- solve geometric and trigonometric problems
- knows bacis of vectors in plane
Implementation and methods of teaching
This is an online version of Tekniikan matematiikan perusteet. The course can studied at own pace, although there are scheduled lectures. The number of lectures is less than in contact teaching.
The course can be studied during the autumn but lectures are before autumn break on Thursday at 10am - 12am. There are extra lectures on first three weeks, whose lecturing times are not available yet.
Learning material and recommended literature
All material is available in moodle.
Learning environment
The course is studied with material in moodle.
Contents
- Percentages, polynomial equations (1. and 2. degree), systems of two linear equations: word problems
- Basics of trigonometry (right-angled triangle, non-right angled triangle, unit circle)
- Geometry in plain
- Vectors in plain
Review on topics of Johdatus matematiikkaan (Introduction to mathematics), if needed.
Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.
Johdatus matematiikkaan (Introduction to mathematics) or corresponding knowledge from expressions, unit transformation, equations, and system of two equations.
Assessment criteria
Exercises and an applied test.
Assessment scale
1-5
Failed (0)
A student cannot solve mechanical exercises well enough. Less than 33% of maximum scores.
Assessment criteria: level 1 (assessment scale 1–5)
A student knows methods for geometry in plain and for vectors in plain and can solve simple mechanical exercises.
Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)
A student understands requirements of geometry and vectors in plain and is able to apply them in some extent in engineering problems. At least 57% of maximum scores.
Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)
A student masters geometry and vectors in plain and is able to analyze engineering problems. At least 83 % of maximum scores.
