Learning outcomes
The student is able to
- tell about themselves, close relations and everyday life
- act in the most common authentic spoken situations in Finnish
- start and finish a brief dialogue
- use basic vocabulary and common grammatical structures in speech
- understand simple speech on concrete topics.

Implementation and methods of teaching
Preliminary assignments, exercises, visits, pair and group work and independent studying
Timing and attendance
Intensive course in May-June 2022, 36 lessons (2 + 4 hours per week)
The student has to be able to work and attend the class intensively.

Lectures and exercises on Lappeenranta campus on Monday mornings and functional exercises and visits on Wednesdays (36 hours)

Contents
Review and extension of Finnish vocabulary, new grammatical structures.
Topics:
- My everyday life
- Finnish cuisine
- Nature, weather and seasons
- Town environment, town vocabulary, local cases
- Games and sports culture, verbal nouns
-Summer activities and cottage culture, 3rd infinitive
Finnish language is learnt in various environments, e.g. nature, downtown,sports premises and kitchen.
Students produce short videos on topics studied on the course.
Additional information for students: previous knowledge etc.
Finnish 1 - 4, approximately 12 ECTS, level A1.3
Assessment criteria
Continuous assessment (activity and speaking skills)
Assignments to be assessed: 1. Teaching session (pass/fail), 2. Videos created in pairs and individually (pass/fail), 3. Group discussion (5-0)

The student can speak about the course topics, but needs a lot of support from other speakers.

The student masters the vocabulary and grammatical structures related to everyday life and close relations well.
The student understands main spoken points and can react to questions with a few sentences.
The student can start dialogues, maintain them for a short time and finish them. Errors that may hinder understanding occur.
Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)
The student masters the vocabulary and grammatical structures related to everyday life and close relations in an excellent way.
The student understands the main spoken points and can react to questions fluently and freely.
The student is proactive and flexible in different spoken situations. A few minor errors may occur but they do not hinder understanding.
