Learning outcomes
The student is able to
- plan, implement and evaluate the nursing care of an internal medicine-surgical client
- carry out the client's medication and fluid treatment safely
- implement nutritional treatment and guidance
- apply nursing methods and a rehabilitative approach safely at all stages of the nursing process
- promote a positive customer experience
- record the client's nursing process
Implementation and methods of teaching
6 weeks of clinical practice in either medical, surgical or rehabilitation units in either primary health care or special health care

Clinical placement is approved if,
- The student has presented his/her personal objectives for clinical practice period to both guiding teacher and clinical supervisor by the second week of practice
- The student follows the general rules of work life: follow the working hours (being in work on time) or inform about absences on time, appropriate behavior in the workplace etc.
- The student show activity and interest in learning in the unit
- The student has followed the shifts of his/her supervisor which makes assessment possible
- The student shows signs of learning and proceeding to meeting objectives during clinical practice
- The student is able to provide safe care according to his/her skills
Clinical placement is not approved if,
- The student has not presented his/her personal objectives for clinical practice period to both guiding teacher and clinical supervisor by the second week of practice
- The student does not follow the general rules of work life: follow the working hours (being in work on time) or inform about absences on time, inappropriate behavior in the workplace etc.
- Many absences during the practice period (the practice week are not united) which makes learning and guiding almost impossible
- The student has not for some reason followed the shifts of his/her supervisor which makes assessment impossible
- The student does not show signs of learning and proceeding to meeting objectives during clinical practice
- The student endangers patient safety during the placement with his/her actions
