Learning outcomes
The student is able to
- use the design tools and methods
- select and compare publishing platforms
- use visual storytelling and visual elements (typography, picture, space, format, colors)
- design and produce a publication which supports the content and intended message.
Implementation and methods of teaching
Lectures, tasks, presentations and discussions.
Timing and attendance
The schedule is in the course's Moodle environment. Obligatory presence on the first day, lectures and presentations. There is no need for additional tasks when absent but tasks have to do within given time.

Learning materials and literature list are in course's Moodle environment.
Alternative completion methods
Presented evidence of experience and learned skills e.g. in work life.
Working life cooperation
If possible the main task is a co-operation project.

In Mukkulankatu campus and Moodle learning environment.
Student time use and work load
Tasks 50 %, lectures 25 %, literature ja learning tasks 15 %, presentations and discussions 10 %.
Contents
During the course students will learn to use Adobe InDesign for creating a publication concept, will get to know different publication types and their characters, forms and formats, publication process and the tasks of the publication team, how to visualise the publication concept, how to work with resource materials and create layout for the outcome,
Assessment criteria
Tasks 85 %, presentations and discussions 15 %.

B1 Is able to apply diversely learnt methods and processes

Assessment criteria: level 3 (assessment scale 1–5)
A1 Is able to use broad-based the professional terminology of publishing and communicate taking in consideration the target group
B1 Is able to choose suitable methods and processes for actions and argue the decisions.
C3 Is able to take appropriately in consideration the needs of the target group.
Assessment criteria: level 5 (assessment scale 1–5)
A1 Is able to expertly use the professional methods of publishing and based on those build a functional concept
B1 Is able to choose, combine and develop suitable methods and processes for actions
C3 Is able to take responsibility of the whole concept process.
